HISTORY CHANNEL SERIES: MOUNTAIN MEN

The History Channel has a series out called Mountain Men, which I just learned about (better late than never). The show documents the lives of 3 men - Eustace Conway, Tom Oar and Marty Meierotto.  You might recognize a name or two from making your rounds on the outdoor blog circuit.  Make sure you stream the current full-episode at the History Channel.

  8. Tom has so many orders that he has a friend of his helping him make the knives. According to Tom, his friend is a better knapper making the stone blades than him...I also asked if he ever thought of having a web site to advertise his wares there.. His answer was no, that with his chores, the show and everything else he ahas going he cannot support the website.. Good news is, there is talk of doing another season....

  20. Eustace has faced much opposition from governmental authorities. He has been harassed continually and nearly forced to cease his Turtle Creek way of life. Please read this well written article for more information and ways to help Eustace fight for our right to live free from government intrusion! Please help!

    1. The mountain man in AK wears "bunny boots". From what my mom says, who lived and worked in AK, that they are old military boots no longer made. The bunny boots keeps a person's feet really warm even in negative degree temps, they are popular in Alaska. You may be able to find them in Military Surplus stores. As for the other men, I'm not sure.

    2. I was in USAF 1969-1972 . Our men who worked outside plant wore the "Bunny Boots" . They are made of rubber and air filled .
The rest of us wore mucklucks with thick wool liners .
To Dustin doubt Tom makes "bunny boots" .....

  35. I found Tom and ordered one of his knives Today. Even got to speak with him on the phone. He is just like he is on TV. Down to earth and a great guy. His phone is 406-295-5167. The knife is now $250 plus $10 for shipping. His address is 38046 Yaak River Rd., Troy MT. 59937. Nancy make the sheith out of buffalo and dolls it up. Tom signes the knife and Nancy makes a certificate. I suggested a website with Paypal. Do not know if he will do it but I would also be interested in his other items.
